I wanted to visit HMS Surprise ever since... I started reading Patrick O'Brian Aubrey-Maturin series and of course watched Peter Weir's movie "Master and Commander". There will be lots of pictures and not many words :)
Views from the bow and the stern:
Forest of masts, yards, stays and shrouds
Sails of Star of India as seen through Surprise's stays:
The helm (bark Star of India can be seen at the background on the right photo)
Captain Jack's cabin in the aft...
... and hand's hammocks
The bell with "HMS Rose" inscribed on it (the tradition is to never change the bell, and the replica was made based on HMS Rose, until it was purchased by movie-people for "Master and Commander") and Neptune's figure from the stern (sits on top of windows)
Blocks (wooden) and shrouds
HMS Surprise is a man-o'-war, so here they are, Captain Jack Aubrey's pride: the cannons!
Hurricane cannon (beelzebub was there too!) and anyone-wants-to-look-in-the-muzzle. Unnerving sight.
The bow and the bow figure:
As a part of the exhibition on board of Star of India there is a model of the Trafalgar Battle, with the position of all the ships and famous Nelson's message:
From the porthole you can see the beautiful Star of India, bark which is still sailing (and is under sails here in the Museum)
