Texas: Padre Island

Early July 2012 took us to Padre Island National Seashore near Corpus Christi.

The adventure started a bit earlier, when returning back from our adventure in Colorado and Grand Canyon, we decided that it's time to change our lives, and invest in something reliable that can take us places. Especially since that old green Volkswagen had more dead parts than I can care to mention. So at the end of June 2012 we got lovely blue creature as a travel partner.

Couple of days later we took the newly aquired friend on its first adventure. Fatih had to fix his passport in Turkish consulate in Houston, and after that we headed to Padre Island. Evening: setting camp near the beach (we'll get out Marmot tent during the next month, before the trip to Yellowstone, Montana and Oregon)

Sand dunes in the morning on the way to swimming. The announcement nearby happily stated that "you will be beaten by medusas". Fatih, spoilt Mediterranean dweller, declared that the gulf is muddy and is no good.

Sea dwellers

Sandy shore with seaweed

Pelicans rocking on the waves

Birds, birds, birds...

After surviving the heat of the shore, we headed to some state park near Austin. Which was awfully boring and plain.

But bright sunshine in the beginning of the treck turned to be a storm at the end.

We actually ran away ,and probably did the right thing. We saw small tornado along the road (really small, but tornado), and then the rain caught up, and it got dark. We found refuge in some motel in Temple and had the best shrimp quesadilla I've ever tasted.
The next adventure will be in a month, during the Summer break. We'll head north, to Wyoming and Yellowstone, Montana and Glacier National Park, and then to Seattle, down the Oregon Coast and to California.

UNTIL NEXT ADVENTURE
